Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister released in Chennai the fourth volume of a comparative etymological dictionary of Tamil and Indo-European languages. Starting from 19 Tamil root words, this volume traces how related words developed in Western Indo-European languages such as Latin, Greek, German, French and English, and in Eastern languages including Sanskrit, Pali and Sinhala. The series is part of Tamil Nadu's efforts to document the antiquity of Tamil and its links with other language families, and the new volume adds to the State's scholarly resources on Tamil etymology.
