The foundation stone for ISRO's Advanced Radar Research Centre has been laid at Chandrapur near Guwahati, Assam. The centre comes under Project NETRA (Network for Space Object Tracking and Analysis), India's programme for space situational awareness. NETRA aims to track space objects and debris that could threaten Indian satellites. A radar facility in the Northeast will add to the country's ability to monitor objects in orbit and protect its space assets.
