Five young orangutans were rescued from a casuarina plantation in the Udayapur-Talsari forest area of Balasore district in Odisha. Orangutans are not native to India; they occur naturally only in the forests of Indonesia and Malaysia. The species is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, which makes the presence of these great apes in an Indian plantation a matter of concern.
