The Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered top-level administrative changes in Tamil Nadu. Under its directions, M. Sai Kumar was appointed as the Chief Secretary of the State. Sandeep Mittal was named Director General of Police (DGP) in charge of the Armed Police and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC). The ECI exercises such powers over key officials during the election period to ensure that polls are conducted in a free and fair manner.
