The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 to enable vehicles built for E85 and E100 high-ethanol fuels. E85 contains up to 85% ethanol, while E100 is made up mostly of ethanol. The change brings E100 into the emission certification provisions, so certified vehicles must satisfy the applicable emission and safety standards.
