Delegates at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi formally adopted the Delhi Declaration. The document sets out seven principles for governing AI, addressing accountability, trust, fairness, transparency, safety, human dignity, sustainability and innovation. It supports data sovereignty, the idea that countries should control data produced within their territory. The declaration also encourages AI to be integrated with Digital Public Infrastructure like Aadhaar and UPI, and it champions 'Green AI', which seeks to lower the energy consumed by AI systems.
