The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the procurement of stealth Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) for the Indian Air Force under the Ghatak programme.
Ghatak is an indigenous stealth combat drone developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The project was earlier called AURA, short for Autonomous Unmanned Research Aircraft. The approval is a key step towards inducting home-grown unmanned combat aircraft and boosts India's self-reliance in advanced military aviation.
