Save
In a Rule 110 statement, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a new integrated Secretariat complex in Chennai spanning 20 lakh sq. ft. at an estimated ₹1,200 crore, designed for the next 100 years. It will house the Assembly and the offices of the CM, Ministers and departments. The Secretariat now runs from Fort St. George, built by the English East India Company in 1640-1644, and Namakkal Kavignar Maaligai (1978). Only about four acres of the 107-acre fort campus are with the State; the rest belongs to the Defence Ministry and ASI, preventing expansion.
