China has announced that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will reopen for Indian pilgrims in 2026, with entry limited to 1,000 pilgrims. Two routes are available: through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. The pilgrimage takes devotees to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It is organised under bilateral arrangements between India and China that regulate pilgrim movement. The routes had faced restrictions in earlier years because of geopolitical tensions and health-related concerns, so the reopening is seen as a sign of improving ties.
