Chhattisgarh has topped the country in the third phase of Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB), a Ministry of Jal Shakti initiative for community-led rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge. The State registered 79,775 structures, of which 77,719 were completed, and five districts - Surajpur, Mahasamund, Balod, Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara and Kabirdham - were among India's top 10. JSJB began on 6 September 2024 and was merged with Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain from 1 June 2026. Koriya district's '5% Model' asks farmers to set aside about 5% of land for recharge. Over 1.58 crore recharge structures exist nationally.
