The Union and Tamil Nadu governments have approved in principle a Multi Modal Logistics Hub (dry port) in Tiruchy. TIDCO will soon start a detailed study to choose a site and prepare the proposal. The facility will serve industries and exporters in Tiruchy, Karur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai and Thanjavur, offering container handling, warehousing, cold chain, a truck terminal, cargo consolidation and Customs clearance. Planned links include Chennai, Kamarajar, Kattupalli and VOC Thoothukudi ports in Tamil Nadu and Cochin and Vizhinjam in Kerala, cutting freight costs.
