C-ART Observatory Established at Andhra University Under Mission Mausam
C-ART: Strengthening Coastal Weather Intelligence
On May 1, 2026, Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, MoES, inaugurated the Coastal Atmospheric Research Testbed (C-ART) observatory at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Established by IITM Pune at a cost of Rs. 180 crore, this is the first such facility on India's east coast.
Technological Advantage:
- Advanced Instrumentation: Equipped with remote sensing systems, an eddy covariance tower, and greenhouse gas analyzers.
- Mission Mausam: The facility aims to enhance early warning systems for cyclones and extreme weather events along the Bay of Bengal coast.
- Focus: Characterizing coastal weather shifts and improving numerical weather prediction models.
For Science and Geography aspirants, C-ART is a critical infrastructure update for disaster risk reduction in South India.
