BRICS MENA Meeting: Navigating Regional Humanitarian Crises

Under India’s BRICS Chairship, Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South), MEA, chaired the BRICS MENA (Middle East and North Africa) meeting in New Delhi on April 23–24, 2026. The forum included Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys from member nations.

Focus Areas:

• Conflict Resolution: Deep concern was expressed over the situation in Palestine and Gaza. Members reiterated the importance of humanitarian aid and the role of UNRWA.


• Regional Peace: Discussions covered the political settlement in Yemen, reconstruction in Syria, stability in Iraq, and the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.


• Terrorism: The members reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and condemned attacks on UNIFIL (UN Interim Force in Lebanon).


• Next Chair: The group agreed to meet next in 2027 under China’s chairship.
