BRICS Environment Ministers Oppose EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism at New Delhi Meeting

Save
At their 12th meeting in New Delhi, BRICS Environment Ministers opposed the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), warning that such measures could hurt developing countries' climate action and resilience. CBAM applies to carbon-intensive imports such as iron and steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen and electricity. The ministers sought greater adaptation finance from developed nations through grants and concessional funds that do not add to developing countries' debt, and urged them to honour the commitment to triple adaptation finance by 2035.
