The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) plans to restore the 230-year-old Exchange Building inside Fort St. George, Chennai, and renovate the colonial-era museum it houses. Completed in 1795, the building first housed the Madras Bank, and its upper hall served as the Public Exchange Hall. The museum holds colonial-period weapons, coins, medals, uniforms, documents and other artefacts from India and Europe. Fort St. George, set up by the English East India Company in the 17th century, is one of Chennai’s key historical landmarks.
