The Government of India is relying on the GARBH-INi initiative to predict preterm births early and help prevent them through advanced research and artificial intelligence. GARBH-INi (Interdisciplinary Group for Advanced Research on Birth Outcomes) is a flagship programme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). It includes India's largest pregnancy cohort study, following around 12,000 pregnant women to find early risk factors, and combines AI, clinical epidemiology and multi-omics approaches such as genomics, proteomics and microbiome studies. Its digital platform, GARBH-INi-DRISHTI, lets researchers access, analyse and share data. India has one of the world's highest numbers of preterm births.
