On its 40th Foundation Day, 25 February 2026, the Department of Biotechnology launched SUJVIKA, an AI-powered portal offering structured trade data on biotech imports. By flagging high-value and high-volume imports, it aims to support domestic biomanufacturing and cut import dependence. DBT was set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Science and Technology. India's bioeconomy grew from about US$10 billion in 2014 to roughly US$165.7 billion in 2024.
