Indian Railways has introduced an AI-enabled Intrusion Detection System to prevent elephant deaths on tracks. Distributed Acoustic Sensors fitted along optical fibre cables detect elephant movement and send real-time alerts to loco pilots, station masters and control rooms so trains can slow or stop. The system now covers 141 routes in the Northeast Frontier Railway and is supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
