India co-hosted the launch of OneSCD, the Global Partnership to Advance Equity and Transform Sickle Cell Care, during the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder in which red blood cells turn rigid and sickle-shaped, hampering blood flow and oxygen delivery. India's National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission (NSCAEM), launched in 2023, aims to end SCD as a public health problem by 2047 through population-scale screening, early diagnosis, counselling, treatment and follow-up. India reaffirmed its support for an equitable, coordinated and sustainable global response.
