In June 2026, the Government of India upgraded the Anaemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) programme, launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2018, from its 6×6×6 design (six beneficiary groups, six interventions, six institutional mechanisms) to a 7×7×7 strategy. Its components include deworming, iron and folic acid supplements, testing with treatment, awareness drives and digital monitoring. Double Fortified Salt (DFS), carrying iron and iodine, helps prevent iron-deficiency anaemia and iodine-deficiency disorders; a global review found it can cut anaemia by up to 21%. More than 50% of Indian women and close to three-fourths of Indian children are anaemic. DFS reaches about 76 million people in four States, while distribution through the PDS, serving around 800 million, remains uneven. FSSAI has notified DFS standards.
