The fifth edition of Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar (SSSS) 2026 was launched on 1 September 2026 to remove marine litter and conserve coasts. Its week-long drive runs from 12 to 19 September 2026, ending on International Coastal Cleanup Day, and covers India's 11,098-km coastline with clean-ups at more than 100 beaches. It is carried out under the Ministry of Earth Sciences' PRITHVI scheme, which also monitors shoreline erosion and seawater quality. The 2026 edition introduced the first national Ocean Olympiad for youth. The initiative began in 2022.
