CAZRI's climate-resilient moth bean varieties survive 35-day dry spell in Rajasthan

Save
Four moth bean varieties developed by ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur, namely CAZRI Moth-4, 5, 6 and 7, withstood a prolonged 35-day dry spell during Kharif 2026 in western Rajasthan. Bred for arid conditions, they stayed green and set plenty of pods despite low soil moisture during flowering and pod formation. Their developmental plasticity lets them flower about 30 days after sowing and adjust growth and maturity to available soil moisture. Timely sowing, optimum spacing, weed control and moisture conservation also aided their performance.
