The Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) in Assam has marked 25 years of rescue and rehabilitation work. Set up at Panbari near Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, it is India's first dedicated facility to hand-raise, treat and release orphaned and injured wild animals. It is run jointly by the Assam Forest Department, Wildlife Trust of India and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The centre has rescued over 10,000 animals, released about 68% back into the wild, and helped reintroduce one-horned rhinos into Manas National Park.
