World Development Information Day, marked on October 24, draws attention to global development challenges and the need for international cooperation. The UN General Assembly created the day through a resolution in 1972. The date coincides with United Nations Day and with the 1970 adoption of the International Development Strategy for the Second UN Development Decade. The day seeks to spread development-related information more widely and mobilise public opinion, especially among young people, and underlines the role of science, technology and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in economic and social progress.
