Even after being declared a protected monument in 2025, the roughly 2,300-year-old rock paintings at Kumittipathi village in Coimbatore district still lack any physical safeguards. The notification was issued under Section 3(1) of the Tamil Nadu Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1966. The paintings are located in two caves on Pathimalai hill near Madukkarai, not far from the Kerala border. Executed in white pigment, they show an elephant, a chariot and figures resembling humans.
