The International Day for Biological Diversity is observed every year on 22 May to raise awareness about the need to conserve biodiversity. The day reminds people that the variety of plants, animals and ecosystems sustains food, water, health and livelihoods. The theme for 2026 is "Acting locally for global impact", stressing that conservation efforts by local communities and governments add up to meaningful results for the planet as a whole.
