India has submitted its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for 2031-35 to the UNFCCC under the Paris Agreement. By 2035, India aims to source 60% of its power capacity from non-fossil fuels and cut the emissions intensity of GDP by 47% from 2005 levels. It also targets an additional carbon sink of 3.5-4 billion tonnes of CO2 through greater forest and tree cover. India stressed that meeting these goals depends on finance, technology transfer and capacity building from developed countries. It has already crossed 52.5% non-fossil capacity and cut emissions intensity by 36% between 2005 and 2020.
