International Olympic Day is observed on 23 June to mark the birth of the modern Olympic movement and to encourage people to take part in sport.
The day was established in 1948 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at its 42nd session in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The date recalls the founding of the IOC on 23 June 1894 in Paris by Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games. It promotes the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. The 2026 theme is "You Can Do This! Let's Move".
