Tamil Nadu marked State Organ Donation Day on 23 September 2026 in memory of Hithendran, whose organ donation in 2008 became a landmark for the State's programme. The day spreads awareness and honours donors and their families. Between September 2025 and August 2026 the State recorded 312 donors and 1,699 organs and tissues. From October 2008 to September 2026, 2,550 donors gave 14,845 organs and tissues. TRANSTAN (Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu) was set up in 2015. As per NOTTO data, Tamil Nadu led all States in deceased organ donors in 2025 with 2,796 transplants. Since September 2023, 825 brain-dead donors have received State honours.
