The Government of Tamil Nadu revised its District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Rules, with the Tamil Nadu District Mineral Foundation Rules, 2025 replacing the 2017 rules. The revision improves use of DMF funds for mining-affected areas and communities: mining lease holders must pay DMF contributions with interest for violations, at least 70% of DMF funds must be spent on directly affected areas, and the District Collector heads the District Mineral Foundation Trust.
