About 21.18 lakh vehicles were registered in Tamil Nadu in 2025 through 147 Regional Transport and Unit Offices, 8.4% more than in 2024. Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Coimbatore, Madurai and Salem accounted for over 40% of the total. Two-wheelers made up about 16.4 lakh, and petrol vehicles about 75%. Electric vehicle registrations rose from 1.35 lakh to 1.74 lakh, mostly two-wheelers.
