Banjar in Himachal Pradesh has had its Community Forest Resource (CFR) rights recognised, drawing attention to how the Forest Rights Act, 2006, is being implemented. The law protects the entitlements of Scheduled Tribes and other traditional communities who live in forests. Gram Sabhas are expected to draw up CFR Management Plans with government and scientific help, aimed at conserving forests, biodiversity and water sources while supporting sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience. Women and youth should take part in forest governance, monitoring and decisions, and success should be judged by forest health, water security, better livelihoods and stronger local institutions.
