The historic tower clock of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Palayamkottai is being restored so that it can chime again. Made by London clockmakers John Moore & Sons, it bears the year 1854 and was installed in 1855, earlier than London's Big Ben, which came up in 1859. It is thought to be among the oldest tower clocks in India. The cathedral itself was built in 1826 by Rev. Charles Theophilus Ewald Rhenius and recently marked its bicentenary.
