BRICS leaders welcomed against Rameswaram Ramanathaswamy Temple backdrop at 18th BRICS Summit

At the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received BRICS leaders against a backdrop of the Ramanathaswamy Temple, Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is one of the Char Dham sites and the only southern shrine among India's 12 Jyotirlingas. Revered by Shaivites and Vaishnavites, it is the end point of the traditional Kasi–Rameswaram Yatra. Its 126-foot, nine-tiered eastern Rajagopuram was built between 1897 and 1904 by a Devakottai zamindar's family. The State says a monk looked after the shrine until the 10th century A.D., after which the Sethupathi rulers of Ramanathapuram expanded it.
