A rare pair of Dusky Eagle Owls has been spotted in the Phato tourism zone of the Terai West forest division, near Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand. This is the first such sighting in the area in 15 years. The Dusky Eagle Owl belongs to the family Strigidae, the group of typical owls. It prefers dense, old-growth forests close to rivers and wetlands, so its return points to healthy habitat in the area. The species is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
