Rajasthan's tiger population has grown to 149 across its five tiger reserves, with Ranthambore home to 72. Ranthambore's survival rate of about 80% is among the highest for major reserves.
Sariska, which lost all its tigers in 2008 and was restocked with descendants of Ranthambore's tigress Machli, now has 53 tigers and is called the world's first successful scientific tiger relocation. Madhya Pradesh has reported 45 tiger deaths this year, about 40% of the national total. India has 58 tiger reserves and 3,682 tigers (AITE 2022).
