In Maharashtra's Beed district, a camera trap set up in the Brahmgaon forest range has photographed a four-year-old male tiger weighing more than 200 kg, the first tiger record there in close to a century. The animal came from Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Yavatmal district, which it left in 2023, and moved through Chandrapur, Dharashiv, Latur and Ahilyanagar before arriving in Beed. The tiger (Panthera tigris) is listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. India started Project Tiger in 1973 to protect tigers and their habitats.
