West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launched 'Arjun Vahini' on 1 September 2026. It is a specialised disaster response squad with 200 members. The force has been designed on the pattern of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the specialised central force that handles natural and man-made disasters. The new State squad is intended to strengthen West Bengal's own capacity for rescue and relief operations during emergencies.
