The President of India has authorised Vigilance Commissioner A.S. Rajeev to function as the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC), following the end of Praveen Kumar Srivastava's tenure. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the notification. The Central Vigilance Commission was created as an executive body by a Government Resolution on 11 February 1964, on the recommendation of the K. Santhanam-led Committee on Prevention of Corruption. Parliament gave it statutory status in 2003. It is autonomous, oversees vigilance activity across the Central Government and advises organisations on vigilance work, but is not an investigating agency except for examining government civil works.
