The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has launched Section 301 investigations into the trade practices of major partners, including India, China and the European Union.
The USTR also brings out the Special 301 Report every year under the Trade Act of 1974. This report flags countries that fail to protect Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) adequately and reviews whether US IP holders get fair market access. Countries are placed in three categories: Priority Foreign Country, Priority Watch List and Watch List.
