After a sharp rise in onion prices, the Union government launched Kanda Express to carry onions from Nashik, Maharashtra, to major consumption centres such as Delhi, Chennai, Kochi and Guwahati. Lasalgaon in Nashik is a key onion trading hub. NAFED and NCCF have procured about 1.2 lakh tonnes of onion for the buffer stock to stabilise prices.
