UNESCO Chair on Gender Inclusion & Skill Development Launched at SSPU Pune

UNESCO Chair at SSPU: Paving the Way for Women in STEM

In a historic step toward gender parity in technical fields, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU), Pune, has launched Asia’s first UNESCO Chair on Gender Inclusion & Skill Development. This initiative, established in collaboration with UNESCO, was unveiled during the international conference on "Women Leading the Future of Work."

Empowering Girls in Emerging Sectors

The UNESCO Chair is specifically designed to bridge the gender gap in high-tech and emerging industrial sectors. The focus is on providing high-level skill development to girls and women, ensuring they are prepared for the evolving global labor market.

  • Future-Ready Skills: Training programs cover cutting-edge fields such as Robotics, Automation, and Semiconductor Technology.

  • Strategic Industries: In-depth exposure to Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Technology.

  • Proven Impact: Approximately 10,000 girls have already been trained through this initiative, gaining expertise in technologies that were traditionally male-dominated.

Global Alignment

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). By focusing on vocational skills in the 4th Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), SSPU is positioning Indian women as global leaders in technology.

For TNPSC and Civil Services aspirants, this is a vital update under "Social Issues" and "Women Empowerment," highlighting the role of international collaborations in domestic skill development.
