Save

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in its Trade and Development Report 2026, expects Official Development Assistance (ODA) to shrink by 6.9% in 2026 to US$152 billion, the smallest amount since 2014. It would be a third successive fall, following declines of 8.5% (2024) and 23.3% (2025), leaving ODA at just 0.23% of donors' combined GNI against the 0.7% target. World growth is forecast at 2.6% in 2026 and India's at 7.3%. Strategic sectors (semiconductors, energy-transition technologies, AI infrastructure) drew 44% of global greenfield investment in 2025. UNCTAD backed renewables to cut fossil-fuel import dependence.
