NITI Aayog-TERI Report on E-Waste and Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling

Save

A NITI Aayog-TERI report on e-waste and lithium-ion battery recycling says about 78% of India's e-waste is handled by the informal sector, which recovers only 10-20% of the materials. India generated about 6.19 million tonnes of e-waste in 2024, and this could reach 14 million tonnes by 2030. The 2022 E-Waste and Battery Waste rules already require recycling and ban landfilling. The report suggests wider producer responsibility, linking battery recycling to India's carbon market and more public awareness.
