The eight highly designated, legally protected excavation sites currently active include Keeladi (Sivagangai), Pattanamarudur (Thoothukudi), Karivalamvanthanallur (Tenkasi), Nagapattinam, Manikkollai (Cuddalore), Adichanur (Villupuram), Vellalur (Coimbatore), and Telunganur (Salem). The absolute primary objective of these widespread, meticulous excavations is to systematically uncover and strictly catalogue the comprehensive characteristics of the ancient Sangam Age.
By deeply exploring these highly diverse geographic locations, the specialized department seeks to accurately identify lost ancient capitals, early industrial sites, and massive maritime trade centers.
