Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has nominated 15 members to the Committee of Privileges, to be chaired by Ravi Shankar Prasad. The committee had not been formed for nearly two years in the 18th Lok Sabha. It is a standing committee that examines complaints of breach of privilege of the House or its members and, in a semi-judicial role, recommends action such as reprimand, suspension or expulsion. The Rajya Sabha's privileges committee has 10 members nominated by the Chairman. Parliamentary privileges rest on Article 105 of the Constitution, and those of State Legislatures on Article 194.
