Ishank Singh, aged just seven, has become the youngest person to swim across the Palk Strait. The strait separates Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka and links the Bay of Bengal with the Gulf of Mannar. Crossing it is considered a demanding open-water challenge because of currents and the distance involved. The swim has drawn attention to long-distance swimming between Dhanushkodi and Talaimannar, a route attempted by several Indian swimmers over the years. For exams, remember the geography: the Palk Strait connects the Bay of Bengal in the north with the Gulf of Mannar in the south.
