The GOBARdhan Central Sector Scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet on 6 August 2026, came into force on 1 September 2026 with a total outlay of ₹23,731 crore. Running until 2035–36, it seeks to expand production and use of Compressed Biogas (CBG), raising domestic CBG output nearly tenfold and drawing large private investment. By turning organic waste into energy and other products, the scheme supports a circular bioeconomy.
