The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has struck Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) off the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934, which lists scheduled banks meeting set eligibility norms. The step follows the RBI's April 2026 cancellation of PPBL's banking licence over regulatory non-compliance and worries about depositors' interests. Trouble began in March 2022, when PPBL was stopped from adding new customers on supervisory grounds. In January and February 2024 further curbs blocked fresh deposits, credits and top-ups in accounts and wallets. The Delhi High Court later ordered PPBL to be wound up.
