The Army Medical Corps marks its Raising Day on April 3, recalling its formation on that date in 1943. The Corps came into being through the merger of three bodies: the Indian Medical Service (IMS), the Indian Medical Department (IMD) and the Indian Hospital Corps (IHC). It delivers medical care to the armed forces both in wartime and during peace. The motto of the Corps is "Sarve Santu Niramaya", which means "Let all be free from disease".
